Puppy Mill Rescue Team awarded an $8000.00 grant from Golisano Foundation Bailey and Friends – Grant to support infant and senior puppy mill survivors with medical care ROCHESTER & BUFFALO, NY (Aug 14, 2025)
Puppy Mill Rescue Team is the proud recipient of an $8000.00 grant from the Golisano Foundation’s Bailey and Friends trust to aid medically challenged dogs rescued from puppy mills. We are so grateful that this wonderful foundation has acknowledged our mission with this incredible gift.
The funds will be used to purchase 2 new incubators and an oxygen concentrator to support fragile, newborn puppies. Neonate puppies benefit from incubators because they cannot regulate their body temperature effectively after birth and are highly susceptible to hypothermia. Incubators provide a controlled, warm environment that helps them maintain a stable body temperature, crucial for their survival and healthy development. “By providing optimal conditions, incubators can significantly improve the survival rates of newborn puppies, especially those who are premature or have health challenges. Many of the newborn puppies that enter Puppy Mill Rescue Team have health issues such as cleft palates, hydrocephalus or other birth defects that put them at a high risk for premature death without intervention. Puppy Mill Rescue Team, takes in dozens of these puppies each year to skilled, volunteer foster homes. Thanks to this grant we now have the ability to provide this life-saving care across multiple geographic locations in close proximity to where these puppies are fostered,” says Lisa Jackson, Rescue Director at Puppy Mill Rescue Team.
In addition to helping newborns, the grant will finance dental surgeries for numerous senior puppy mill survivors. While in puppy mills, dogs receive very little veterinary care; only enough to keep them alive while they generate a profit. When older dogs are released they have endured years of neglect. “At Puppy Mill Rescue Team we are committed to transforming the lives these dogs experience through their physical, emotional and environmental health. As veterinary costs continue to climb, we must sometimes put on hold the number of medically challenged dogs we can take due to budget restraints. Unfortunately, this is something we have to consider financially when making commitments to dogs as a rescue that runs solely on donations. The dental surgeries for dogs with periodontal disease from severe neglect are often costly.
Thanks to the Golisano Foundation’s Bailey and Friends trust we can make way for more dogs in wait for freedom from the captivity of puppy mills, the first step in their journey to a life worth living. Since our inception in 2019 we have made miracles happen for more than 3500 dogs and we strive to continue fighting for those without a voice,” according to Jackson.
